EN: My name is Simeon Decker. In 1986 I was born in Annaberg-Buchholz, Germany. I grew up there in the countryside. Through the regional tradition of wood carving I found my way to working with wood and sculpting. Still in my teenage years I decided to improve my techniques: I attended college for a three years professional training as wood sculptor. While in the beginning the technical aspects of the trade fascinated me most, I am now discovering new open spaces in the realm of art. Thus I moved to Berlin to take part in the world of art. For me working in the field of art for an invitation to contribute. In the spring of 2016 I gathered all my artworks in the studio and asked myself for each piece what is wrong with it? And why do I feel so insecure about it? As then a shelf dropped from a wall and two pieces were deformed, a new way of looking at my work opened up. The deformation gave the two pieces a better expression than before. Everyday I am on an expedition to be inspired by art itself. Challenged – as well as inspired – by the work in the studio I want to create things that tell a story and show them to the world.

DE: Mein Name ist Simeon Decker, ich wurde 1986 in Annaberg-Buchholz geboren und wuchs auf dem Land auf. Durch die erzgebirgische Schnitzerei habe ich einen Zugang zum Holz und zur Bildhauerei gefunden. In meiner Jugend beschloss ich dann an meiner Technik zu arbeiten und mich als Bildhauer ausbilden zu lassen. Waren es zu erst handwerkliche Bezüge eröffnet mir die Kunst nun Entfaltungsräume. Für mich ist die künstlerische Arbeit ein Angebot, was zum Mitwirken einlädt. Im Frühjahr 2016 holte ich alle Arbeiten ins Atelier und fragte mich was eigentlich mit einer Arbeit nicht stimmt bzw. warum ich so unsicher damit bin. Als dann in meinem Atelier ein Regal von der Wand stürzte wurden zwei Modelle beschädigt, die durch ihre Verformungen aber einen besseren Ausdruck als zu vor erhielten. So bin ich täglich auf Entdeckungsreise und lass mich von der Kunst inspirieren etwas zu schaffen, was eine Geschichte erzählt. Durch die Arbeit im Atelier herausgefordert und inspiriert möchte ich gerne weiter machen und meine Werke der Welt zeigen.
